Pavla came from Rotorua to Taupo to visit me yesterday. We had a chance to explore town a bit and go for a walk down by the water. It was nice to have the chance to catch up for the afternoon/evening. We went down the the hot pools as well, but the water was too hot to be able to enjoy them! She ended up staying at the hostel for the night. Unfortunately, due to my cleaning I wasn’t able to spend much time with her in the morning. But she rented a bike and spent the day mountain biking and exploring on her own.
After cleaning, the entire Team Clean had planned to go on a sailing trip together. We were going out on the Fearless to enjoy a day on the lake and to see the Maori carvings that are only accessible by boat.
The day was quite windy and a bit cold, but we were able to enjoy some sun and beautiful views from the boat. Unfortunately, because of the wind it was a bit choppy and a couple of the people didn’t feel that well! However, I had a wonderful time!
We spent a couple hours out on the water. It took about an hour or so to get out to the Maori carvings. They were incredibly intricate, although relatively recent. I believe that they were only created in the 1970s. The age was a bit disappointing for me, but I could still appreciate the hardwork and skill that went into creating them by hand.
It was also awesome to have the chance to spend time with the other woofers from Rainbow Lodge!
