I have definitely found enjoyment in being disconnected from the world. Neither Zhoel nor I had cell phone coverage out in the bush (or the wop wops, as the Kiwis call it); my kindle even died so I couldn’t read! That meant no screen time at all and it was so refreshing.
We spent the day fishing, foraging for plants and fungi, and exploring. During one of our expeditions to Whangarei, we bought 2xl matching yellow raincoats at a store called Arthur’s Emporium. These came in handy since the weather turned quite rainy and overcast. We explored the coast and climbed rocks. We came across a huge patch of watercress so we picked some for dinner. Later, we walked around the campsite and collected portobello mushrooms. I think we were both pleasantly surprised by how amazing our dinner came out, using these ingredients!
