Our plan was originally to head to Hamner Springs today, but we decided that it was out of our way and out of budget. (I haven’t talked much about budgeting, but it is definitely a big part of my travel experience. “Would I rather do this or that?”) Instead, we headed toward Christchurch (or Chch as it’s called here). We drove down the coast from the Kaikoura Peninsula and enjoyed the views from South Bay.
Our visit to Chch was brief, just a drive through the main sights, on our way to Akaroa. However, en route, the weather steadily worsened and it was soon gale force winds and heavy rain. We eventually pulled into a rest stop for the night because the driving was getting too dangerous. The car was blowing around for most of the night and the rain soaked everything on our roof racks!
